community although the couple knew a lot of the same people in the UnT art de- partment, Chris and lupita had never crossed paths. ironically, they met at Sally Beauty Company, where both worked. To boost the irony, lupita was working in accounts payable and Chris worked in the tax department. lupita was finishing her master’s degree and Chris had just finished his bachelor’s. They met in the break room, discovering they each enjoyed the same films. Their first date was at the Dallas Museum of art. They married in 2001. after Chris finished his master’s degree at Southern illinois University in Carbondale, they moved to Waco, where lupita was a professor of pho- tography at Baylor University. Chris, too, wanted to teach. They moved again, this time to Collin County, where lupita took an associate faculty posi- tion at Collin College. Chris served as art-labs coordinator, taught part time and began full time this fall. in addition to her faculty position, lupita is the chair of photography and applied graphic design technology. She also served as the faculty sponsor for the league of United latin american People (lUlaC). This fall, Chris joined lupita in co-sponsoring lUlaC. See, there are still good old-fash- ioned love stories. ‘It’s like magic’ Chris calls the malleability of metal “magic.” Being able to take some solid like steel and mold, cut, bend and break it is oddly compelling. lupita concurred, except in regards to photography. “That’s how i feel about photogra- phy, and that’s why i like to use film. There’s a magical feeling when i shoot it and i’m not sure what i got, and i get 36 Plano Profile February 2010
