I love magazines! Seriously, I’m not just saying it for job security; I really do love magazines. As they arrive in my mailbox, I look forward to taking the time to read them.

Sometimes i start at the last page, sometimes i start with the cover story, and sometimes i read from the front to the back. Depends on the magazine and my mood. But i can promise you, i look at every page. The stories, the pictures, the advertisements. One never knows the treasures hidden in a quarter-page ad or the nextto- the-last paragraph of an article.

In addition to Plano Profile, a few favorites have been part of my reading fare for years. For example: Southern Living (i’m pretty sure every southerner is required to have a subscription to that one), and TV Guide (i really miss the smaller version). Others are newer additions: Real Simple and MORE. Some i outgrew long ago, like Seventeen and Tiger Beat (ah, the pull-out posters of Bobby Sherman that i collected…sigh). Magazines, like books, have been a fundamental part of my life for as long as i can remember.

As a little girl, i used our collection of National Geographic just as often as our encyclopedias for research material during junior and senior high school.

As i read, i dog-ear the pages that i want to go back and look at again. I generally keep a magazine around for a couple of months. In one ad, featuring olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, the page exclaims: “The internet is exhilarating. Magazines are enveloping. The internet grabs you. Magazines embrace you. The internet is fleeting. Magazines are immersive.

And both media are growing.” i love the ending: “…people aren’t giving up swimming just because they also enjoy surfing.” as you probably know, Plano Profile isn’t a subscriptionbased magazine.
