PSO SEASON 28 KICKS OFF IN SEPTEMBER M 34 PLANO PROFILE AESTRO Hector Guzman and your Plano Symphony Orchestra (PSO) are proud to present the 2010–2011 season featuring eight concerts you want to hear! From tributes to Judy Garland and the Beatles to traditions like Home for the Holidays, PSO ticket holders are sure to enjoy the lineup. Maria Mott, a longtime PSO subscriber, guild member, and an active member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce, said the variety of programs keeps her and her husband Richard coming back. “We have been supporters and fans of PSO for many years,” she said. “We enjoy being able to listen to wonderful music not too far away from home. I am really looking forward to this season because PSO offers such a variation that I think it’s really going to highlight their capacity and talent. I’m very excited about it.” All of the concerts will be held at the Eisemann Center except for Home for the Holidays and the Barbara Padilla concert, which will take place at St. Andrew United Methodist Church. For more information, visit planosymphony.org. — BRIT MOTT plano civic chorus Forza Italia  Saturday, September 25, 8:15 p.m. The season opener introduces audiences to Mariusz Patrya playing Paganini’s Concerto No. 1. Patrya is the first Polish violinist to win the international Paganini Competition. The evening will conclude with Respighi’s Roman Festivals, which, according to Respighi, represents the “maximum of orchestra sonority and color. It is impossible to achieve more.” Somewhere Over the Rainbow: A Tribute to Judy Garland  Saturday, October 23, 8:15 p.m. In her famed Tribute to Judy Garland, Broadway soprano Linda Eder will delight audiences with songs like “Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The New York Daily News called Eder “one of the most spellbinding singers of our time,” and the Los Angeles Times acclaimed, “A voice like Linda Eder’s is rare; the sensitivity to use it, rarer still.” Tango! Saturday, November 20, 8:15 p.m. Season 8 Dancing with the Stars choreographers Sandor & Parissa will step it up with rhythmic romance in Tango! Home for the Holidays–Family Traditions Sunday, December 19, 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The holiday tradition lives on. Join PSO and the Plano Civic Chorus for a night of your favorite Christmas carols. This year, Home for the Holidays will spotlight soprano Teresa Gomez and of course, the popular audience sing-along!

Scheherazade Saturday, January 29, 8:15 p.m. The first concert of the New Year will feature Rimsky- Korsakov’s Scheherazade by pianist Jae Hyuck Cho. According to PSO, Scheherezade is considered the composer’s most popular work because of its “beguiling orchestral colors, rhythmic vitality, and haunting melodies and oriental flavor.” Jae Hyuck Cho has been praised by The New York Concert Review as having an “effortless, brilliant technique and a strong sense of the work’s contrasting moods and character.” This performance will also include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

Classical Mystery Tour: A Tribute to the Beatles Saturday, February 26, 8:15 p.m. Since the Classical Mystery Tour’s first performance at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, they have proven to be a hit with Beatles fans and critics alike. The Los Angeles Times raved that the foursome was “more than just an incredible simulation…the crowd stood and bellowed for more.” This not-to-be-missed performance will include hits like “Penny Lane” and “Yesterday.” America’s Got Talent Second Prize Winner Barbara Padilla and The Young Artists Saturday, March 19, 8:15 p.m. You may remember Barbara Padilla from America’s Got Talent (2009) when she auditioned with Puccini’s “O Mio Babbino Caro.” During the semifinals, one judge called her performance of “Ave Maria” the best vocal performance in the history of the show. Fresh from her show in Vegas, Padilla will make her PSO debut on March 19.

Audiences will also enjoy performances from the grand prize winners of the Collin County Young Artist Competition.
A Grand Finale” Saturday, April 2, 8:15 p.m. All good things must come to an end, and the 2010–2011 season closes with “A Grand Finale” featuring Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9—“Ode to Joy” —and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. Plano Civic Chorus performers will include Jenni Till, soprano; Laura Mercado Wright, mezzo-soprano; Alex Bumpas, tenor; and Blake Davidson, baritone.
