Facility, i saw that they had the orchestra at the very end of the hall. I asked where my podium was, and they showed me. It was so far away from the orchestra, i would have needed binoculars to conduct!

“They said there is no way the musicians can be close to the heads of state. I told them that i could not conduct by remote control. They are not used to anyone contradicting them.

I was the first. Finally they moved the orchestra so that they were 10 feet from the audience.

“The concert took place and it was very successful. We accompanied the ballet. We accompanied the mariachi.

We played by ourselves. The heads of state and 300 other officials were ecstatic. President obama had to leave immediately after the concert, but Prime Minister Harper and President Calderon stayed and we played two more pieces.

After the concert, i was told that President Calderon wanted to speak with me. We talked for about five minutes and he told me how proud he was. He stated that after all is said and done, cultural events can make the world look a lot better.” i told Hector that i thought it was a feather in the cap of the Pso that their conductor is invited to conduct orchestras all over the world. Hector replied, “Travel can be tedious and tiring. But when you start making music, it is all worthwhile.”
